Question 50. Why is it added, “and sitteth at the right hand of God”?
Answer: Because Christ is ascended into heaven for this end, that He might appear as Head of his church (a), by whom the Father governs all things (b).
(a)Ephesians 1.21-23: (Christ is) Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Colossians 1.18: And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
(b) Matthew 28.18: Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
John 5.22: The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son
For your personal reflection:
Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father because He has completed His work of atonement. He also sits at the right hand of the Father because it is the place of honor. While He sits, He reigns – He is actively ordering and governing and working all things to His good will and purpose. Right now, He is brining about the defeat of all His enemies.
What, or who, stands against you?
How does the victory of Christ, the finished work of Christ, speak to your situation?

After all these years it is finally sinking in. OK, so I’m a little on the slow side. Christ has done the work already all I have to do is accept it. The phrase “the finished work of Christ” drove the point home even harder. Why is it so hard to take the gift? Is it our brokenness? The battle is won and yet I still suit up and fight it again…and lose. I’m doing that less and less now, but still doing it.
always great to be a part of what the Lord is doing in your life- “Is anyone else glad you’re a Christian?”- a quote from a sermon you gave…Keep up the good work! =)
