General Convention Update « Awakening Grace said in July 13th, 2009 at 9:18 am

[...] The other thing that happened yesterday was quite bizzare.  The Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music yesterday condemned some portions of the New Testament as anti-semetic.  Students of the New Testament will of course note that the New Testament is written almost exclusively by Jews and the portions the Standing Commission would have difficulty with would undoubtedly have been written by Jews.  As I have noted before, the lack of Biblical/theological awareness in our denomination never ceases to amaze me.  Simply staggering. You can read about it here.  [...]

That last bit, Resolution A089, actually hurt to read.

Disregarding God’s word and trying to make it pleasant?

Please, Steve, correct me if I have mistaken that.

God Bless you and your task

No, Andrew, sadly you are not mistaken. South Carolina sought to amend this resolution (as defeating it was clearly an impossibility) by striking the reference to “Christian scriptures” and simply recognizing that Christians have in fact been anti-Judaic. We lost resoundingly. And, as I mentioned, the unamended resolution sailed through the House.

Something I have shared with you before comes to mind. “The power of the Devil begins where the sovereignty of the word of God ends.” (The Fourth Gospel by Edwin Hoskyns.) Numbers 6:24

Hi Steve and all the lampstand lighters,

I thought of all of you as I read today’s devotional in “Our Daily Bread” (www.rbc.org). The topic is Priorities and the scripture reference is Rev. 1:10-2:5 where Jesus stood among the lampstands representing the seven churches who were called to bring the light of Jesus into a dark world. In Rev.2:4 the Ephesians left their first love and although praised for doing many things well, they had failed to keep Jesus in first place.

I know that you are doing all you can to keep Him in first place so that His light will shine brightly in our dark world.

Frank and I are praying for you and if I were closer I’d give each of you a symbolic Aim ‘n Flame to light those lampstands!!!

Blessings, Karen Bryant
