Funny! Though I think Fred has to work on the hand gestures and the clipped tone. Also, this was pre-Nobel Prize, which I guess counts as doing something . . . I wonder if he’ll donate the 10M Kroner to deficit reduction?

Gripping, cutting and penetrating political satire …….
I think will order a Barack Obama Mug from NBC.com.

Hilarious !!! And yet seemingly so true. Thanks for the good laugh. Ridiculous is that he was nominated and won the (now tarnished in my opinion) Nobel Peace Prize for accomplishing absolutely nothing, but filling the world with more hot air by reciting speeches from a teleprompter that he can not “perform” with out. Maybe they can sell the left over t-shirts in the White House gift shop.

Can’t believe SNL did this – the cast and writers must be pretty frustrated for them to eat one of their own. Brilliant!

Headline on my Comcast homepage: “liberals dismayed” at Nobel prize. Reuters, in an article tagged, “embarrassing joke” had this great observation from a New Yorker: “It would be wonderful if I could think why he won,” said Claire Sprague, 82, a retired English professor as she walked her dog in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. “They wanted to give him an honor I guess, but I can’t think what for.”
I can’t think of for what, either.

Shelly, even better, this quote from the WSJ – actually quoting someone who HAS DONE something: “‘So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far,’” former Polish President Lech Walesa, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983, said Friday.”

Here’s a nice sound bite from NBC:
MATT LAUER: There are no major foreign policy achievements to date … In some ways he wins this for not being George W. Bush.
DAVID GREGORY: That’s an inescapable conclusion.

The SNL piece was a lame, insulting and weak attempt to satirize Obama – especially compared to what they’ve done to Bush and Palin. But, we should we expect?
What qualifies Obama for the Nobel Prize?
1. Going around the world trashing the US to other countries.
2. “Negotiating” with Iran. This is like negotiating with Nazi Germany. A Nobel Prize for “peace in our time”. Iran is a country with purpose – a stated purpose – to wipe Israel off the map. They will not deviate from that purpose.
I wonder how that Nobel prize will be viewed when Israel preemptively strikes Iran and then Iran retaliates. Will the “12th Imam” come then ….?

Craig, I actually thought it was a pretty creative send up of the President.

Ken, I will take your word for it. I believe, help my unbelief.
However, the day that NBC “sends us” Barack Obama will be palpable evidence of the “not yet” breaking into the now! I thought that it was a puff piece, “faux send up”. No edge. Contrast it with other “send ups”.

Thank goodness that Sarah Palin got a break for one night. This skit was good for a laugh, but they beat him up with powder puffs.

Zil, if you think Obama cannot give a speach with out a teleprompter than you have simply swallowed whole a lie fabricated by Fox News et al.
If you’re here in Charleston, then you could have had multiple opportunities to hear him speak sans teleprompter during the campaign, each time eloquently.
Craig said in October 12th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
ST, I fear that you may the only person outside the gravitational field of Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman who believes that notion!

Sorry Craig, fear not – the teleprompter myth is simply noise generated by Fox News spin-artists. There are thousands, possibly millions who have heard him speak extemporaneously and eloquently.
Besides, anyone who complains that Obama can speak well using a teleprompter needs to go back and review his predecessor’s speeches, also done with a teleprompter. I’ll take well-spoken-reading-from-a-teleprompter over mangling-the-English-language-reading-from-a-teleprompter anytime.
(unless you think misunderestimate, “Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream,” “The California crunch really is the result of not enough power-generating plants and then not enough power to power the power of generating plants,” “Our enemies…never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we,” and “I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family” were all written on the teleprompter that way.)

ST, although it shocks even me, after further reflection, I must agree with you in general. Obama is very bright, well spoken and able to speak in either a controlled or improvisational setting. He can stand the heat of one on one challenge and still remain poised and charming. It galls me to admit this. Sometimes I just have to spew conservative rhetoric to prop myself up. Obama did garner the reputation of being teleprompter dependent because he and his team are addicted to carefully managing their message. This careful message management is contributing among other things to his 49% approval rating.
Your third paragraph quotes sound like George W. Not the most glib and engaging public speaker. Agreed that the teleprompter doesn’t save everyone – only mercilessly exposes their vulnerabilities.
I think I’ll stop now. Any more admissions and someone might mistake me for a liberal. That would be something!

Regarding Obama’s reported penchant for speaking from a teleprompter, consider this report from Fox News about Anita Dunn, self professor of the wonders of Chairman Mao. Note how the Obama campaign controls the message. Of course, if you don’t like Fox spins, watch the actual video of Anita Dunn herself. Hard to spin that.
She explained that the campaign favored live interviews so that Obama’s words could not be edited — “so that what the voters heard we determined, as opposed to some editor in a TV station.”
She said Campaign Manager David Plouffe put out Web videos so the campaign could avoid talking to reporters and focus the media message.
“Whether it was a David Plouffe video or an Obama speech, a huge part of our press strategy was focused on making the media cover what Obama was actually saying as opposed to why the campaign was saying it,” she said. “One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters. … We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it.”

That sounds like a good thing to me.
As long as we’re in confessional, I’ll admit that I enjoyed listing to Reagan speak. Rarely agreed with him, but he could work a tv camera. And “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” is one of the great lines that still moves me.
