From the pulpit of a New Jersey parish this past Sunday: “Well, are you willing to do this? On this Third Sunday in Advent, sometimes known as ‘Refreshment Sunday’, are you willing to stand up and dance the Hokey Pokey with me? To begin to take a small risk for the gospel? Okay, then. Let’s do it. (“Oh no,” you’re thinking, “She’s not going to make us get up!” Oh yes she is!). C’mon! Everybody form a circle around the church. That’s it. Let’s do the Hokey Pokey. Right here in church. You too, choir. Ready? Everybody sing and dance!”
What They Really Believe
“What happens when developing nations with soaring vehicle populations get tens of millions of petroleum-powered cars at the same time as the global economy recovers and there’s no large global oil supply overhang?” What happens, of course, is that the price of oil goes through the roof — unless we develop alternatives. The petro-dictators in Iran, Venezuela and Russia hope we don’t. They would only get richer.
