Wow!!! Alyssa, I add my voice to those who wish they had agreed with and lived by that list by the grace of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit when I was your age. Instead, I prayed the “prayer” of the foolish young man described by C. S. Lewis, “Lord please make me chaste,…but not just yet.” The Lord did, near 40 yrs. old, save me in spite of my awful self. Now at 50, I can testify both to the lasting consequences and loss of sin and, praise God, to His blood that washes away all sin and the Holy Spirit who daily sanctifies and more closely shapes the redeemed in the image and spirit of Jesus, and that God does redeem and resurrect much that our sin loses and kills.

Your list and no doubt your life preach powerfully not only to your peers, but to your elders as well, this chief of sinners at the head of the line! Keep the faith and speak the truth in love fearlessly and with compassion. You are a refreshing inspiration!

Our Lord surely works in mysterious ways.So a big mistake becomes an incredible testimony. It is a testimony that certainly belongs to Alyssa. Keep sharing it the rest of your life and thanks for sharing with us.

I am even more impressed that you directed credit to whom credit is due. That demonstrates quite a bit of character. I’m proud to have you as a member of St. Andrew’s!!

The compliment should go to St. Andrew’s Youth Leadership team. They gave a book called “The Revolution” to 8th grade confirmands. Alyssa read it, went to the accompanying website which linked the blog where she found the “35 Reasons.” Powerful. Thanks St. Andrew’s! I explained to Alyssa I was impressed that she did the footwork and found “35″ but to always give credit to the author so others can trace the same path.

I was having such a wonderfully egocentric day, complaining a little here, a little there, getting all uptight about feeling disrespected by someone earlier this morning. But then I said,”I think I’ll go and read Steve’s blog to catch up on the TEC news to get my mind off things.” Then I pull up this list…sigh.

If anybody needs me, I’ll be repenting for the rest of the afternoon.

I too wish I had a grasp on both faith and true understanding of sin growing up, boy would things have been a whole lot different. A remarkable list, one I will share with my children as they grow. Thanks to her for sharing, blessings to her, her family and the lives she will touch and impact by her witness of the Great Kingdom !!
