This past Sunday a young (early 20′s) and recent graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary worshiped with us. We had a nice little chat after the service in the lobby. This morning I received this email. I’m sure we’ll talk again. But, if in the meantime anyone is interested in a clearly insightful young man to join their staff team I would gladly connect you to Jarrett.
He wrote:
Dear Mr. Wood,
My name is Jarrett, I’m a recent graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY), and I introduced myself to you in person after the 10:45AM service last Sunday. As I mentioned, I am astonished by your church. You have incorporated so many things in your ministry that I have come to value and, indeed, have always desired to see in a church but – until last Sunday – had not yet discovered. By this I mean your commitment to Christ and His Kingdom, unwillingness to compromise on contested biblical values, employment of all the Spiritual gifts, missional character, multi-generational congregation, blending of both traditional and contemporary aspects of worship/practice, openness to receiving believers from other denominations, joy, willingness to listen to and engage with higher biblical scholarship, and so on. In short, I would love to be a part of advancing Christ’s purposes in the world through a community like yours. I know that you are not seeking to fill any positions right now, but – as you said – you never know what God might want to do
Perhaps you could even recommend to me other churches like yours (if there are any) so that I could introduce myself to them as well. In any case, thank you for your ministry and I praise God for what He is doing through you in Mt. Pleasant.
Blessings.
Sometimes I/we forget just how blessed we are at St. Andrew’s! Any interest in talking with Jarrett?
