A few weeks ago I had this link to an amazing adventure undertaken by Katie Spot. Katie was attempting to become the youngest person to row across the Atlantic Ocean. At 12.20 pm, Sunday, 14 March she made it. Here’s the story.

Evidence Based Decisions
So what is meant when social scientists, and especially politicians, speak of evidence-based decisions? It sounds right and sensible, as indeed it is. It is one of those phrases that seems impossible to object to. What would it mean to make decisions contrary to evidence? Who, other than one’s opponents, would ever want to do such a foolish thing? But what does ‘evidence-based decisions’ mean?

They don’t trust those around them. They desperately want power and want to be celebrated, but they don’t know what they want to do with power beyond wield it, and they seem incapable of reflection about why they need to be admired. Most seriously, they show little interest in, or even awareness of, the central crises of their time.

I cheered when I read the article about children and happiness. I see so many parents who believe that their children’s happiness is the ultimate goal of parenting. One symptom of this is the constant planning, shuffling, games, stuff, and general overwhelming-ness in the life of today’s child. I loved this mom’s perspective on contentment, joy and holiness!
Lig Duncan will write a column like this everyday to make up for the huge mistake of signing the Manhattan Declaration. Sad, Al Mohler signed it too.
