Just received this email from Sam Clawson updating us on the work our mission team is doing in Liberia. The trip has gone well and the reports have been encouraging.
This is from Sam, since Sonny would not write about his program today. Sonny did a teaching on starting Alpha in this part of Liberia. Approximately 40 people attended, some from the Red Light ministry – including some of the boys under the tree who have not turned back, St Thomas, St Stephen, and some independent pastors.
Sonny had outlined a power point with his entire program, always citing Scriptural references. I could tell that it was very well received as many taking notes.
Sonny asked that Anthony, Kurtz and I do demonstration presentations, Holy Spirit, Sharing Faith, and Who is Jesus/Why Did He have To Die. After each session, Sonny asked that everyone split into 3 separate groups who discussion. The Holy Spirit drew the most discussion, with some very “spirited.” Lisa lead one group – she well represented St Mary’s (Goose Creek).
I sense that Alpha will be blossoming in Liberia. This was a high point of this trip.
Tomorrow we are returning. This has been a different trip from prior Liberia trips. I feel that we have seen the fruit of prior trips and have planted seeds for the future.
Fruit: (1) the JD KImber School is up and running (we have plenty of pictures and some video), and (2) the Great Commisiion Movement has made a solid proposal for the future which will provide continuation for the refuge house and micro finace (soap making).
Seeds: (1) Men’s Ministy, in a society in which men are slow to admit weakness, and (2) Alpha. While it sounds simple to just say Alpha, the future is much bigger than that short word.
