All true, but without decades of clergy and laity determined that they were not going to let the actions of TEC “interfere with their doing God’s work,” IE keeping the pew potatoes ignorant and quiet so as not to endanger pensions and mortgages, this would not have happened.

This is truly a classic. It helps explain Greg’s passion for the church that he loves so much.

Greg’s postings are often rather “hard to take” if one isn’t quite a veteran in reading TEC news and has had the time to evaluate both the good and the bad from multiple standpoints. His concern is real and the problems are real – and the passion and language he uses speaks to the audience at StandFirm, but makes others angry. I sometimes wish he would tone down the language a bit as to make the postings more accessible to outsiders, but this would also diminish something – it’s important for people to realize the indignation that the issues he raises induce in the Communion, and he is far from alone here – as far as I can tell, most commenters who are banned at StandFirm for unacceptable / intolerant langauge are banned for imploring people to leave the Episcopal Church.

The brewing storm here is the mass center of The Episcopal Church which has little idea of how things are going on “at the top” – and is reluctant to even begin thinking about such things.

There are months when StandFirm’s traffic is noted at Alexa as more than the entire site of the Episcopal Church (including the Episcopal News Service, all the various sermon and educational resources, diocesan information, staff information & directories, subcategories of Women’s Desk etc. etc..). Virtue Online tends to use language much more vitriolic than that of StandFirm, and often comes close to StandFirm’s traffic. None of the TEC-loyalist blogs come even close to the traffic that StandFirm or Virtue Online. This should be “writing on the wall” for the leadership of TEC: a huge section of their constituency has no idea of what is happening, nor is very interested in hearing about it. A small group is interested in opinion coming from TEC loyalists; and a massive group is interested hearing more about the many problems of TEC.

It’s safe to say also that the average StandFirm / Virtue Online visitor is in a younger demographic than the median TEC membership (I believe around 55) – I believe it’s primarily the older folks who don’t use the internet much that are in this massive, relatively uninformed group.
