One of my friends (who falls left of center, politically) sent this along to me. It’s a witty ditty, but I can’t quite tell which side Phil Ochs is singing for:
That’s my confusion, Rick. Ochs was a self-described “left liberal”. So, is the parody a parody within a parody – like the movie, Inception?

When my dad was running his non profit org, he knew that all of the liberals had all of the ideas on how to help everyone that needed help, but they did not contribute. It was always (90%) the conservatives who shelled out the big $$$ for the work. Though Romney was criticized for his income, his giving is strong and what I would expect. If you look at the giving on the other side it is paltry.

@Rick: interesting. I’ve seen the exact opposite in our nonprofit, as far as giving. It would be fun to try and figure out why the experiences have been so different.

my read is that he is talking more broadly about those who vocally espouse a position until putting it into action hits too close to home. Why it may be tempting for anyone to read this through the lenses of their own political views (or someone else’s) the point is equally valid for, and there is no shortage of examples to point to on, either end of the political spectrum. And wouldn’t someone of Ochs’ background most likely be directing that to both?

He’s doing a parody of the liberals. Good for everyone else until it
Moves next door to them.
